Play Accepted by the Downtown Urban Theatre Festival

Fine Arts Doctoral Program student Hershell Norwood's play, Billie's Blues, was accepted by the Downtown Urban Theatre Festival (DUTF) from among more than 1,500 scripts as one of the final 12 to have a reading presentation this June in New York at the historic Cherry Lane Theatre (lower Manhattan). DUTF is a two-week celebration of urban theatrical expression marked by a multicultural perspective which "showcases theatrical works that echo the true spirit of urban life and speak to a whole new generation whose lives defy categorizing along conventional lines." Norwood's play is also featured at a fund-raiser by T. Bankolé, director at the New Federal Theatre, who is exploring the development of Billie's Blues into a full production.
